What annual Pigeon Forge TN event draws as many as 25,000 visitors from 33 states and offers over 250 programs featuring 150 experts in wildlife, photography and mountain lore? That would be the Annual Wilderness Wildlife Week salute to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, and for the 23rd year, Pigeon Forge is doing it again for free January 12-19, 2013. Great Smoky Mountain area experts, East Tennessee mountain historians, and local musicians and storytellers are eager to share their love of the Smokies with you in informative and creative ways. Over 40 exhibitors, experts and organizations have banded together to offer hikes, talks, videos and workshops for your enjoyment in a wholesome, family-oriented way. There are even programs specifically designed for children of all ages and their interests.
Wilderness Wildlife Week offers activities indoors and out that include map and compass reading, hikes, owl prowls, mountain lore and photography. Have an interest is learning more about the preservations of eagles or the work of people that rescue bears? How about learning the names of indigenous plants and flowers you’ll see while hiking in the National Park? This week is all about the wonders of the Smokies and how to have the best experience in them by learning about all the opportunities they present through subjects including the Civil War in the mountains, photo editing, introduction to the Old Time Banjo, blacksmithing, Tennessee butterflies, sing-a-longs, rock formations in the Smokies, fly fishing and more. This free event is a great way for an entire family to learn new ways to enjoy their Smoky Mountains vacation and the great outdoors.
